Requirements

1. The following may apply for the cycle of studies leading to the doctoral degree:

a) Holders of a master’s degree or legal equivalent in areas similar or related to the study cycle, namely Computer Science and Informatics, Art and Design, Audiovisual and media production, Architecture;

b) Holders of a bachelor’s degree with a particularly relevant academic or scientific curriculum that is recognized as attesting to the ability to carry out this cycle of studies by the Scientific Council of the Interdisciplinary Research Institute of the University of Coimbra;

c) Holders of an academic, scientific or professional curriculum that is recognized as attesting to the ability to carry out this cycle of studies by the Scientific Council of the Interdisciplinary Research Institute of the University of Coimbra.

2. The recognition referred to in subparagraphs c) and d) of the previous number only allows access to the cycle of studies leading to the doctoral degree, not granting the holder the equivalence to the degree of licentiate or master, or its recognition.

Selection Criteria

1. Scientific and academic merit of the candidate (6/20):
a) Final Degree Classification;
b) Other Academic Degrees, Master’s and English language skills.

An interview may be required for further assessment.

2. Scientific/professional profile of the candidate (6/20):
a) Projects, publications and other achievements relevant to the field of study;
b) Relevant experience (professional or public intervention) for the field of study.

3. Merit of the research project and articulation with the candidate’s previous path (8/20):
a) Adequacy of the research project to the objectives of the Doctoral Programme;
b) Originality and relevance of the research project proposal.

Elements for the Application

1. Letter of motivation (MANDATORY).

2. Letter of recommendation 1 (MANDATORY).

3. Letter of Recommendation 2 (OPTIONAL).

4. Certificate of completion of the degree with final average or diploma. It must include the certificate proving approval in the curricular units carried out, with the respective classifications (school history). (MANDATORY unless it is a course taught at the University of Coimbra).

5. Master’s degree completion certificate with final grade or diploma. It must include the certificate proving approval in the curricular units carried out, with the respective classifications (school history). (MANDATORY unless it is a course taught at the University of Coimbra).

6. Certificate of other courses possibly carried out with programs and workloads of curricular units carried out with the respective classifications (school history), if you want accreditation. (MANDATORY, unless it is a course taught at the University of Coimbra under the Bologna Process (after 2007/2008)).

7. Research project proposal: a non-binding abstract in English, outlining the motivation, objectives and approach, with a maximum of 1500 words (MANDATORY).

8. Curriculum vitae (MANDATORY).

9. Portfolio of projects and other relevant achievements, publications and awards, up to one page per item, in pdf format (MANDATORY).

10. Identification document (MANDATORY for foreign applicants only).
